GP Training Practice

Education is Paramount at Bothwell Medical Centre as we are teaching and training practice. We recognise the importance of clinicians and management working closely together. We consider ourselves to be at the forefront of the clinical effectiveness agenda, and there is a strong commitment to applying the best available evidence, both within the consulting room and in drawing up practice policies and protocols. We are committed to quality and continually strive to encourage, foster and maintain the highest possible standards of general medical practice

We have been an enthusiastic Training practice for over 20 years and this is reflected in the wealth of experience that is offered to every GPST or FY2  Doctor by each member of our practice team.

We also have a well equipped library as well as an education room for tutorials with a TV/camcorder to view videos for consultation training. There is always access to a room with a computer with internet access for personal study over the lunch hours. Practice meetings take place regularly GPSTs and our FY2 doctors  are welcome to attend to gain insight and exposure to important aspects of clinical governance.

We believe that learning takes place everywhere in the practice, not only in the consulting room. As a team we aim to make every GPST and FY2 feel welcome and to provide an inspiring and supportive learning environment. Everyone in the practice is approachable and happy to help. We strive to provide excellent and quality training to each GPST in order to equip them well for safe, competent and confident independent practice by also ensuring exposure to as wide a range of patients, diverse social backgrounds and medical conditions as possible. The feedback we have received from our previous GPSTs has been very positive. All our GPSTs have gone on to enjoy a career in General practice.

The induction for ST1s,ST3s and FY2 doctors  is very structured covering general and personal learning needs and reflective practice.

As well as our GP Trainers our Practice Manager is also is very involved in GPST Training and has protected time on a weekly basis to teach our registrars the Business, Administration and Legal eliments of running  a busy practice
